I am a total fangirl for Elizabeth Lim and this book didnt disappoint me. I really enjoyed reading the dynamics between Shiori and Seyru. Mostly fluttering around giving snippy comments and hilarious remarks, bringing laughter and joy no matter what circumstances. The last quarter of The Dragon's Promise was unputdownable - I won't lie I did tear up at the ending. The book was able to expand on the world and characters in a meaningful way while also wrapping up the story. Although I didnt feel this book quite met the mark of the first (but how could it anyway? Its not a massive secret that I absolutely adored Six Crimson Cranes. And I was right to have because once again Elizabeth Lim shows that she never fails to deliver an amazing story told that illustrative, vivid and poetical way of hers. I enjoyed the comedy injection in perfectly timed scenes. This story follows on from where Six Crimson Cranes left off Shiori leaving with Seryu the dragon to see the Dragon King. I like it; it goes along with the fairytale vibes Lim has with her stories. I love how well developed they are. Her strength of mind and heart is admirable. I highly recommend this book and series. It followed on from SCC, and focuses on the dragons more, which I loved. I love the author's character development for Shiori. It starts off where six crimson cranes left off (I gave six crimson cranes 5) The book was fast paced and engaging and incredibly hard to put down.
