Trump Says He Will ‘Strongly Consider’ Answering Impeachment Probe Questions in Writing

November 18, 2019

President Donald Trump said that he will mull answering impeachment inquiry questions in writing, a possibility brought up by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)

Taking to Twitter early Nov. 18, the president started off by claiming Pelosi is scared of the radical wing of her party before making his announcement.

“Our Crazy, Do Nothing (where’s USMCA, infrastructure, lower drug pricing & much more?) Speaker of the House, Nervous Nancy Pelosi, who is petrified by her Radical Left knowing she will soon be gone (they & Fake News Media are her BOSS), suggested on Sunday’s DEFACE THE NATION that I testify about the phony Impeachment Witch Hunt,” Trump wrote, referring to CBS News’ “Face the Nation.”

“She also said I could do it in writing. Even though I did nothing wrong, and don’t like giving credibility to this No Due Process Hoax, I like the idea & will, in order to get Congress focused again, strongly consider it!” Trump added.

Pressed on what impeachable offenses Trump has committed, Pelosi said the inquiry is still ongoing but that the president has committed “bribery,” without citing evidence for the claim.

“The president could come right before the committee and talk, speak all the truth that he wants if he wants to take the oath of office or he could do it in writing. He has every opportunity to present his case,” Pelosi said.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also said Trump could testify, telling reporters in Washington: “If Donald Trump doesn’t agree with what he’s hearing, doesn’t like what he’s hearing, he shouldn’t tweet. He should come to the committee and testify under oath. And he should allow all those around him to come to the committee and testify under oath.”
